Pipiloti Rice

This adorable monster of art galleries was born in 2006 during 2nd Biennial of Contemporary Art of Seville (Biacs2). After a few heated conversations about the current situation of Art, a young man showed up from a room wrapped up in a duvet and wearing a pair of sunglasses from the 50’s. That awkward character, speaking in verse and looking down on everyone, was Pipiloti Rice.

She was named after the fantastic contemporary artist (born in 1962 though) Pipilotti Rist, who sang/shouted Wicked Game. Her appearance is inspired by Josephine Meckseper, German artist that showed up at the Biacs2 with a pair of sunglasses that covered all her face and spoke Italian with a German accent. Fascinating.

A few years after, Pipiloti arrived to Florence with the idea of giving a chance to the art from the past. There she met the Rustic Sisters, two nerds looking for their place in the Culture without being artists, and that used to go to the openings in art galleries with no other interest but getting a glass of wine for free. Pipiloti could see their potential and made them collaborators of this blog for them to post in English and Italian from other places in Europe.

Pipiloti always wanted to be more international.
